Team Yellow winned IDC2007 !

         BANGKOK - Contest Day

IDC 2007 was concluded by the final match of Yellow and Red.
To win the final, they have to win the first 2 matches.

Yellow and Red, both team's strategy was pretty similar. The bottom
robots carry the Puang-Malai to upper robot which has got a long arm
          to put it on hands.
But they have got different extension mechanism in the arm. Yellow team
adopted extension slide. Red team adopted scissor link mechanism.

In the first match of the final, yellow and red, both of team started
to lift the Puang-Malai at the exactly same time. However, yellow teams
mechanism was faster than red's. Also yellow's control were pretty good
enough to win the firsat game.
In the second match, the same situation was happened and Yellow has
won the second match as well.
scissor link for giving puang-malai, yellow team's quick mobility, grey
team's HAND performance and much more... Yellow team, Red team and Sky

[Daily report #9] Decorate with own colour

          BANGKOK - Day11
2 days left for the contest, today was the last day for workshop day
          in net.

To get ready for tomorrow's seeding contest, robots of all teams were
painted with own team colour. Before painting, all the robots texture
looked same but after all make up, each robots had much more individuality
          in thier looking.
However some teams were careless on painting that they lost part of
the function of thier robot because they sprayed even on the parts which
are not supposed to be painted. For example, navy team's scissor link
mechanism were disbled due to the paint's strong viscocity and friction.
Any kind of sliding mechanism are not to be painted.
We got to see how things are going on navy team until tomorrow's seeding
          contest starts.

The elephants are larger than you!

          BANGKOK - Day9 Tuesday
Today all of the students took a day off to visit Thailand's 'Rose Garden'
to experience some of Thailand's traditional culture.

Here everyone got an opportunity to get there pictures with an elephant
and see how elephants are used to help with North Thailand's logging
industry. Many of the students then learned how to perform a traditional
Thai dance, create pottery, prepare herbs to be used for massages, weave
fish out of banana leaves and more!
In the afternoon everyone watched a Thai Cultural show to get a taste
of Thailand's rich culture composed of many musical instruments, songs,
dances, and martial arts. It was a great time had by all!
[Daily report #7] Regulation update

          BANGKOK - Day8 Monday
We had a big change in the detail part of the rule today.
In the old regulation, it says that machines must not throw objects
outside of the field. However, actual field will not have fences around
which means it will be pretty hard to prevend objects from drop off
          the field.

Now the new regulation, it says - Robots are not to push the objects
off the field intentionally. The team will be disqualified by dropping
more than half of the objects.
Today was mother's day celebration.

Despite all Thai people are going around to the festival, students were
still struggled with machines in workshop to figure out how their robots

[Daily report #5] Turning point

          BANGKOK - Day6 Saturday
Chulalongkorn university on weekend was released from the weekdays chaos.

During IDC, Students can work on manufacturing only for 8 days so they
have just turned the first corner today. (Today was 5th day since workshop
          started.)
Already, most every team have finished to manufacture the entire first
robot and part of the second robot. Most of the first made robots seemed
like lower starters which have more difficulties rather than upper starters,
such as climbing up the ramp or shooting Puang-Malai.

However, the biggest work left for students is not only to finish the
second robots. They also have to tune up both of thier robots and to
practice piloting. Maybe in the worst case, they have to rebuild if
the things are not going as thier intention.

They would never imagine that next 3 days are going to be a hassle!
[Daily report #4] What are these going to be?

         BANGKOK - Friday, Day5
Robots of each team are now showing their prospects.
Most of the teams have already made chasis of robots 2 days ago. Students
are now working on some kind of actuator to handle objects.
Every year,
a robot kit includes a special item of the host country. For example,
In last year's IDC in Japan, students used bamboo in their robot kits.
This year's special item is coconut shell. They are not
required to use it, but seeing students use this unusual item will be
          interesting.
Some of them went around the beautiful gland palace, other groups went

          BANGKOK - Day3
After yesterdays technical review presentation to the staff, the students
went to the workshop to start making there robot for the next 8 days.
Once they got to work, thieir faces changed to intense focus and determination,
a complete transformation from the welcome party 2 days ago.

They divided each of the team member's responsibilities - while one
makes parts, another drafts technical drawings.
Only for one day, Most of the teams have already finished their work
on the chasis, some have part of their robots tested to see whether
they can solve their biggest issue - their ability to climb up the steep

BANGKOK - Tuesday, Day2, was a second big day for students.
Even though they haven't known each other before yesterday, they have
to comminucate and cooporate each other to design thier robots, in addition,
they had only 1 night for discussion.

11 teams showed up to conference room each by each and secretly presented
          thier idea.
Almost every team have a common problem: how they make thier robot climb
up the steep slope of 45degrees between lake area and ground area.

There were 44 students from 6 countries, staff and VIP guests invited to the reception ceremony where Thailand's Minister for Science and Technology, Yongyut Yutthawong, opened the competition. After the opening remarks were made, all of the participating students were introduced by country. Student representatives from each country were briefly interviewed gauging there excitement (which is very high) for participating in the competition and what they thought may be their greatest challenge during this competition (communicating when everyone has a different native language).

Once the interviews concluded, the rules of this years competition were shown with a three-dimensional animation. Students then were randomly assigned to their teams and the competition began!
